I don’t need to wish you a merry one because I know that by now the state of your bank accounts has told you all you need to know about how merry or not it will be.<br /><br />This seems to be a season of letters, yes I know, and even more intriguing of leaked ones. I assure you, this letter is different. If it ever gets leaked, know I had no hand in it. It could just be the handiwork of my detractors and political foes.<br /><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null" name="more" style="color: #f38c1c; text-decoration: none;"></a><br />You are probably wondering who I am and the reason I have chosen to write you a letter rather than tweet at you or send you an email or a text. Wonder no further, you and I know you will never reply me. I am not a celeb. I digress.<br /><br />So, how many concerts have you signed up for this period? Your account manager at the bank should by now be delirious and you already checking out rides at Coscharis. Bulletproof BMW 7 series maybe? That shouldn’t be an issue now, aren’t you all Princesses and Princes? No pun intended here.<br /><br />I have a question by the way. How do you plan to make these concerts rock? Like make them totally unforgettable, make them headline grabbing and stuff? Have you been rehearsing with your band?<br /><br />Say what? You don’t know what a band is?<br /><br />So how do you plan to make it worth the while of fans who pay huge amounts for tickets and who take the risk of coming to crowded venues and willingly inhale a toxic mixture of second hand smoke, mouth and body odour? And probably get fondled by jagudas all in the name of jumping up and down to the sound coming from the loudspeakers?<br /><br />Oh? You plan to get a DJ to play your CDs while you lip synch along? Come on! You have to agree that is unfair, unethical, unprofessional, mediocre, untenable, une….. ok let me stop.<br /><br />It will do you a world of good if you read this letter carefully and take some of the advice and criticisms that will flow from it under advisement.<br /><br />Your fans are getting smarter and more demanding by the day. A day will come when they will rather listen to the radio or sit in their cars or homes and just flip through CDs, than come to your concert. At least it is you performing (we hope), and of course cheaper, more convenient and less stressful, than struggling to get into VIP at Eko Hotel.<br /><br />Laziness is the only reason I can think of that will make you, a professional artiste (I definitely can’t refer to you with the more particular title of Musician, you cannot convince me you are one yet) perform from CDs at a show. Your counterparts abroad take time out to have sessions with bands (whether theirs or rented) in preparation for concerts and tours. They don’t rely on DJs. At worst, DJs are a backup. This actually applies to Hip-Hop artistes too.<br /><br />Instead of giving a show that will make you go down in history and be hailed a legend like TuBaba or be referred to as good concert material like Asha, Omawunmi, and Waje, you will rather stand inebriated in front of hundreds (maybe thousands) of fans and have the gumption to turn back at a likely equally stoned DJ, screaming at him or her “DJ track 7…no! no! that is track 6, I want track 7”. Not good at all. You should aim for better quality.<br /><br />Imagine if in the middle of you rambling through a track we all have concluded you performed in the studio while recording, the DJ mistakenly pulls a cable and the only gadgets left working are the microphones and we (including your dazed self) find out that you weren’t uttering anything all evening? That you have instead been busy just throwing in the occasional “yaw! yaw! Put ye hends up!! Lagos are you happy??!!!!” Dude come on! How can Lagos be happy after you have been found out to be scamming them? Lesser things have led to concert riots in other places. This picture I painted recently happened to one of Nigeria’s top gospel artistes after collecting 500,000 naira as performance fees from an hapless church. Is what you collect really a performance fee or merely an appearance fee. We need to be clear on this point.<br /><br />Let me park this letter here. I have had the chance of seeing quite a number of Nigerian concerts; either physically or on TV and I can safely say one more time that artistes of now are largely a lazy bunch. Your concerts merely feed on adrenalin that makes it look like the fans are getting value, not the quality and sheer artistry of your live performances. You all need to fix up.<br /><br />I can count on my fingers the number of artistes who can actually pull off a concert with a live band. Many of you very likely don’t know the lyrics of your own hits and you many times in those concerts default to pointing the mic at us poor fans so that we can help you insert the forgotten words. Too poor! Fix up else you will have to rely solely on the number of CDs that Obaino and the rest of the Alaba gang can make us buy to make ends meet.<br /><br />While I believe you will, after reading this missive, make changes and ultimately get more professional; accept the assurance of my highest regards.<br /><br />Yours respectfully,<br /><b>Henry Okelue</b><br />Member, Concerned CD Buyer of Nigeria</span></span>

To mention few, I was in Suga by Sunny Alli, Oko ni mofe by Sunny Alli as well, Iyo Aye by Muyiwa Ademola and others that I cannot mention now.<br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>Are you mentioning these ones because they were remarkable?</b></h4> No, It has nothing to do with that. These are the ones I could remember, but you will have to pardon me on those I couldn’t remember because I have actually lost count. Talking about the ones I produced myself, I produced Aremo ife, Fimidara ire and others. I really cannot remember all the movies as we speak now.    <br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>Which of these movies was most challenging?   </b></h4> I have played the lead role in many movies. I played the lead role in Suga, Oko ni Mofe, Aremo Ife, Fimidara Ire, Amaka, Ife Oju and so on.<br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>Would you say you have fully arrived, judging by the number of movies you have produced and featured in?   </b></h4> I am not the type that likes to talk about achievements. I just want to focus on my job and do it to the best of my ability. I am enjoying the dimension my career is going at the moment and I give glory to God for the opportunity He has given me so far to be able prove myself in the midst of many daunting challenges. So, let’s just continue to work hard and leave everything to God. I know my fans are yet to see the best of me.<br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>So, how would you describe yourself?           </b>                                                                                                                                </h4> I am just a normal girl who believes in working hard and doing her job diligently and delightfully. This is one thing I know how to do best and I will continue to do it as long as God permits. Only God knows where He is taking me and I know that He will see me through. I will leave the rest to my fans out there to say what they think about my person. I am still striving very hard to push my self to that level where I won’t have to stress myself to much to get what I want. <br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>How did you begin your acting career?      </b>            </h4> It all started in 2008. I started with Muyiwa Ademola through an uncle of mine, Wale Dada. He is a radio presenter in Abeokuta, Ogun State. I told him that I was interested in acting and he said he would introduce me to his friend, Muyiwa Ademola. Eventually, he took me to him and  he accepted me. That was how the journey started. Though, it was tough when I started, now I give glory to God for His mercy. Things have started taking shape properly.  <br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>What job would you have done if you are not an actress?</b> </h4> Seriously, I have always loved acting. Though, I studied Botany at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, I wasn’t that crazy about the course, neither do I want to work with my certificate. I have always loved to be an actress.<br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>Who would you choose as your role model in the movie industry?</b></h4>  In the Yoruba movie industry, I will say Muyiwa Ademola, Ayo Adesanya and Sunny Alli are my role models. I watch the way they act, react when it comes to the issue of money. In fact, whenever I had issues in the movie industry, those  are the people I discuss with.   In the English-speaking movie, I like Joke Silva and Bimbo Akintola. I like the way they act and interprete their roles in movies. They are my role models as well.<br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>It is believed that in the Nigerian movie industry, when you are out on location, many things happen like exchange of s*x for roles. How would you react to this? </b>                                                                                                                                          </h4> To me, it’s not a do-or-die affair. If anybody believes he has to sleep with you before giving you a role, you have the right to accept or reject such offer. I have gone through many experiences but I have never experienced such. If I like you, fine, I can date you.<br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>You talked about going through many experiences, how did you handle such situations?   </b>                                                                                                                                  </h4> Like the one that happened a long time ago, though it was an English-speaking movie, I met with the woman who was to act as my mother while Kola Oyewo was to be my father. At the last stage of the movie, people really appreciated me for the way I interpreted the role, they were so excited about my talent but suddenly, the director of the movie came and demanded for s*x. I cried and called Uncle Muyiwa Ademola, he told me to be calm and prayerful. I told Ayo Adesanya and Sunny Alli too. Initially, I thought it was a joke because we had almost concluded the movie and in fact, the costumier had called me to come for the last costume of the last set, but to my astonishment, the director was very resolute about his devilish plans and insisted that if couldn’t sleep with him, I should go home.<br /> <br /> <br />   <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>How much will you take if you are asked to go nak*d in a movie?</b></h4> That thought has never crossed my mind for a day. The truth is that no matter the price, I can never do such. I can never expose myself because of money. That’s outrageous. I am not desperate. <br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>Why can’t you do it?      </b>                                                                                                                                      </h4> I’m from a well-cultured home where such an act is highly condemnable. <br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>You have been in the industry for about five years now, where do you  think you are going to be in the next 10 years? </b>  </h4> Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. I am hoping and looking up to God for a brighter future. But I wish that in the next 10 years, I would have become a famous, respected and honoured  actress. Not only in the Nollywood, I would like to have raised my game beyond the shores of this country and become an ambassador of arts anywhere I go. <br /> <br /> <br /> <h4> <b>You have worked with most directors, which one will you say is the most outstanding?</b></h4> I love working with Muyiwa Ademola. He is so cool and calm unlike some directors who are fond of shouting, screaming and so on.<br /> <br /> <h4> <br /><b>Your own film that you have produced, how successful were they financially?</b></h4> They were not that financially rewarding because of so many factors affecting the industry. Chief among those problems is piracy. We have been battling with piracy for a very long time. But nothing appears to have been done to check the perpetrators of this devilish act. I know things are beginning to take shape for my career, with or without piracy, I will continue to produce quality movies for my fans. I am loving every moment of my stay in the industry. I don’t see anything stopping me.

He is in America at the moment with his mum. Education is good in Nigeria but we wanted him to grasp a higher quality of education. I have always been involved in his welfare right from the time he was born till now. It is left for people to pick out the meat. The media has already stolen the show from me. There is nothing to talk about again. I was one of the crowd and I was watching as the news were flying.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <b><i>Do you regret that marriage?</i></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> I don’t. I have never regretted that marriage. I have so many reasons.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <b><i>What are the reasons?</i></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> It is not only because of my son. Without that marriage, I will not be here today. I see life from a different perspective now. There are things that are inevitable. So, many things are bound to happen in life and there is nothing you can do about it. When such things happen, you have to face it. You only have to manage it when it happens and from there, you move ahead. If you don’t move ahead from that situation, you will never go to the next level.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <b><i>Is it likely you will get out of the marriage institution when you go into it again?</i></b></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> I pray I don’t. I always say that marriage is not for this generation and a lot of people question me when I say it. My mother would always be in the house by 5.30 pm. Whether my dad gave her feeding money or not, there must be food on the table when he got home. My mother would give us school fees whether my father gave her or not. But women of these days, even when the husband is at home, the wife can come home later than 10pm and nothing would happen. She would even stop by the eatery and buy dinner instead of cooking. The principles God lay down for this institution is not there again. What we have now is ‘manage institution.’ So, whatever situation we find ourselves in, we should manage it and then there won’t be any trouble. Now, how many marriages last? Because it is 9ice’s marriage, everybody is talking about it. Check your neighbour. It happens everywhere.</div> <br /> <div>   <br /> <ul> <li><b>Why did you deny you had twins when they were born?</b></li> </ul> I did say I didn’t have twins then because I believe it was personal. If I have N1m, I think it is only <a href="http://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a>my account’s officer that should know how much I have. In fact, he wouldn’t even have the right to check my account unless I ask him to do that. He couldn’t just cull up my account details and start checking how much I have. This is not a car we are talking about, these are human beings.<br /> <ul> <li><b>But when they grow up, do you think they will forgive you when they read that you once denied them?</b></li> </ul> I will tell them the reason I did that. It was the same way my father gave me his own reasons. I didn’t know him until I was 22. I got to know my mother when I was 18. They gave me their reasons for doing what they did. I asked my father where he was all the time I was growing up and he told me where and how and when he was a part of my life. If my kids grow up to ask me why I did what I did, I would certainly explain to them.  I didn’t say I didn’t have kids just because I wanted to lie, No. I had my reasons. I had my life to live.<b> </b><br /> <ul> <li><b>You are in showbiz, so you shouldn’t expect to have a private life…</b></li> </ul> But there are still some elements that are personal. I didn’t fight anybody when the stories came out. I just didn’t say anything because I wasn’t ready to talk about it. I wasn’t ready to share the story. When I got ready, I even shared the pictures of the twins. Who knows, I could have even used their pictures to make money and sell to a publication that wanted them. But I just released the pictures.</div>

Universities open registers for lecturers

ABUJA — As the deadline given by Federal Government to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to call off the six month-old strike or be sacked expires tomorrow, several universities have opened registers to be signed by the lecturers even as the leadership of ASUU insisted that the strike will continue.<br /> <div align="left"> <b>Lectures resume at AAUA</b></div> At Ondo state-owned AdekunleAjasinUniversity, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) lectures resumed, yesterday, but few lecturers and students were seen in the lecture theaters. Lectures were held in the Department of History and the Faculty of Education as time table for the session has been released by the university authority. The university, in a reminder, by the Registrar, Mr. Bamidele Olotu confirmed the resumption of lectures. Olotu said in a statement that: “In line with an earlier circular to all students on resumption for the second semester 2012/2013 academic session, all students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in particular, their parents and the public in general are hereby informed that commencement of lectures on Monday, December 2, 2013, remains sacrosanct as announced. Some of the students who also spoke said they were happy about the development. They urged ASUU to cooperate with the Management and expressed optimism that lectures would begin in full swing as announced.<br /> <div align="left"> <b>ESUT lecturers, students back to school</b></div> Students and lecturers of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have also returned to school following a directive by the school authorities. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, correspondent who monitored the situation at the Enugu and Agbani campuses of the university reports that the students were in their various departments exchanging pleasantries and checking the notice boards.<br /> At the faculties of engineering and management sciences in the Enugu campus, students in their numbers were copying the second semester examination timetables pasted on the notice boards.<br /> The lecturers, on the other hand, held a meeting with the governing council of the university at the Agbani campus on the resumption of work.<br /> Addressing the lecturers, chairman of the council, Chief Chilo Offiah, appealed to them to sheathe their swords and return to classes in the interest of the students. Offiah thanked the lecturers for attending the meeting and assured them that the council would do all it could to ensure the improvement of their welfare.<br /> The executive members of the ESUT branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which called the strike, did not attend the meeting.<br /> It was however a different story at the Enugu campus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as only a few students and lecturers were on campus. NAN reports that the few lecturers were in their various offices discussing or reading while the non-academic staff members were busy working. Some of the lecturers who spoke on conditions of anonymity said they were waiting for directives from both the school authorities and the ASUU branch.<br /> “We heard on the radio that we should resume classes but we have not received any circular to that effect,” some of them said. Only the medical students who did not join the strike were fully on campus.<br /> <div align="left"> <b>Lecturers shun registers at UI</b></div> At the University of Ibadan, ASUU members resolved not to sign any register as directed by the government. The lecturers took the decision during a congress held in the institution yesterday.<br /> This came as all lecture rooms in various faculties were under lock and key. The campus was a ghost of itself as few people were seen moving around. Apart from the fact that students feel the government’s order would not help the face-off, the advice given by the academic union to parents that they should not expose their wards to danger may have been adhered to by most parents.<br /> Speaking with newsmen, the chairman, UI chapter of ASUU, Dr Olusegun Ajiboye said the union remained on course at ensuring that government funds public universities.<br /> Though, he stated that the union respects the office of Mr President, he alleged that Dr. Doyin Okupe and others in his government were trying to ridicule the office of the President through their unguarded utterances against the union.<br /> <b>Uniben</b><b> students stay away to honour Iyayi</b><br /> At the University of Benin, in spite of announcement by the university authorities that academic activities would resume today, there were no signs of resumption in the university yesterday, as both the Ekenwa and Ugbowo campuses were empty.<br /> Students of the university said they would not resume until the remains of ProfessorFestus Iyayi who they held in high esteem is buried. <b><i>Vanguard</i></b> also learnt that ASUU members in both UNIBEN and the state owned AmbroseAlliUniversity, Ekpoma were not ready to resume duties today.<br /> ASUU chairman, UNIBEN chapter, Dr. Tony Monye when contacted said they were busy preparing for the burial of Professor Festus Iyayi even as he added that ASUU members would not resume duties.<br /> <div align="left"> <b>No lecturers at Ambrose Ali University</b></div> Meanwhile, at the AmbroseAlliUniversity, Ekpoma, there were no signs that the university would soon re-open as no student was at the two campuses of the university at Emuado and the main campus. A lecturer who spoke with <b><i>Vanguard</i></b> on condition of anonymity said there has been no directive from the state government for the re-opening of the institution. He said the lecturers would continue to stay at home until ASUU leaders give the directive to go back to work.<br /> <div align="left"> <b>Lecturers shun directives at Unijos, Abu, FUT Minna, and others</b></div> At the University of Jos, the governing council directed heads of departments to open attendance registers for academic staff. Registrar of the university, Danjuma Jilly-Dandam in a statement yesterday, also requested departments to publish lecture time tables by today (Tuesday) to signal the resumption of academic activities and keep daily compliance registers for academic staff that report for work.<br /> However, despite the directive, lecturers were not visible at both the Bauchi Road and Naraguta campuses of the institution as only the non-academic staff members were seen in their offices.<br /> Students are also yet to return to school as hostels remained largely desolate when <b><i>Vanguard</i></b> visited, yesterday.<br /> The situation was the same at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, AbiaState, the two campuses of the Bayero University Kano, Federal University of Agriculture, FUT, Minna, AhmaduBelloUniversity, Zaria, and GombeStateUniversity as the lecturers and students have shunned the directive to resume<br /> <div align="left"> <b>ASUU vows to continue strike</b></div> Meanwhile, the National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge who briefed journalists in Abuja on the position of the union following the ultimatum, said the Federal Government was free to open all the federal universities in the country but all the members of ASUU would not go back to work unless government met all their demands.<br /> According to Fagge, “we shall bow only to what we as academics are convinced will serve the interest of Nigeria and its people, no matter their ethnic, religious or class origins. This is where we stand. We shall never be cowed. Since the issuance of the union’s response to the said letter, the salvos that have been coming out, allegedly from the Minister of Education makes one to wonder whether the person that is charged with the responsibility of superintending over Nigeria’s education system has the wherewithal to handle such a vital national assignment.<br /> “It is my intention therefore, to clear the air on the rumours, lies and mischief that are milling out of government circles (especially from Ministry of Education and National Universities Commission) all with the intent of misleading the Nigerian public.<br /> “I will establish, to all discerning minds that ASUU did not bring any ‘new conditions’ as claimed by the Minister of Education Nyesom Wike and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Mr. Doyin Okupe. Rather, it is the government that is trying to avoid taking responsibility.”<br /> Fagge stated that ASUU had no role in closing and opening of universities in Nigeria, rather it could withdraw its services which he said was the right of every worker.<br /> He said:  “The fact is very clear that our members are not going back to work and it is part of the sacrifice we are making that our universities meet up with other universities in the world.”<br /> <div align="left"> <b>Our agreement with FG</b><i> — ASUU</i></div> Dr. Fagge said in the agreement, the Federal Government promised to provide N1.1 trillion in the next six years starting from  2013 with N200 billion, 2014, N220billion, 2015 N220billion, 2016 N220 billion, 2017 N220billin and 2018 N220 billion, for the revitalization of the University system. It was further agreed that a dedicated revitalisation account should be opened at Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, by the Federal Government and fund would be paid into the account on quarterly basis from which the universities will draw.<br /> The ASUU President said after the November 4, 2013 meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan and after the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Kano, the union communicated to the Federal Government on the agreement. He said ASUU also asked the Federal Government to include non-victimization clause and that a new Memorandum of Understanding should be signed by a representative of government, preferably the Attorney General of the Federation and a representative of ASUU, with President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC as witness.<br /> He denied speculation that 60 per cent of ASUU branches voted for the unconditional suspension of strike and 40 per cent voted against it.<br /> Fagge said instead, out of the 52 branches of ASUU, 48 branches which was roughly 92 per cent supported suspending the strike only if certain conditions were met while four branches advised the suspension of the strike before pursuing the implementation of certain conditions.<br /> <b>Sack threat, a tragedy</b><br /> He continued:  “For a Minister of Education to issue threat of sack of academic staff is a tragedy of huge proportion for Nigeria and Africa. While ASUU has been struggling for conditions in which Nigerian students would benefit from, the Minister of Education is thinking of a thoughtless mass sack as a solution to the problems arising from Government’s non-implementation of an Agreement reached with ASUU as if Nigerian rulers have made no intellectual progress since Abacha.<br /> “To be clear; Nigerian lecturers — from graduate assistants to professors, are not begging anybody for jobs. It is now well known that since 2003, successive governments have told Nigerian people, repeatedly, that the solution to Nigeria’s social and economic crisis is to kill public economic and educational institutions and institute the reign of private control of the economy and education, whereas the constitution of Nigeria states clearly that the commanding heights of Nigeria’s economy shall be publicly owned.<br /> “From all indications, the Minister of Education, on behalf of the present Government, is set to carry out in the sphere of education what one of its predecessors did with universities, Transcorp and the Nigeria Airways.<br /> “The way is being paved for privatization of education. Academic staff have a duty to defend the right of Nigerians to sound public education. To succumb to the present threat by Minister of Education on behalf of Government is to give-up on Nigeria. We in the academic profession have no such intention.<br /> <div align="left"> <b>ASUU and Nigeria’s past leaders</b></div> “We resisted Abacha’s dictatorship. We refused to succumb to Obasanjo/IMF attempt to weaken public in favour of private universities. We convinced Yar’adua to keep faith with interests of Nigeria’s youth and desist from privatising education. We remember Obasanjo’s position that the solution to ASUU resistance is to flood Nigeria with private universities.<br /> “In spite of all these, stretching from ASUU’s principled resistance since the military, we have noticed with disgust how easy it is for ministers and government to take refuge in political blackmail. We shall never succumb to this. Our country is our union’s constituency”.<br /> The ASUU president said instead of the Minister to respond to their letter which expressed understanding of their resolution on the November 4, 2013, meeting with President Jonathan, he chose to go public accusing ASUU of making new demands.<br /> On the allegation that ASUU was sponsored by the opposition political parties against the Federal Government, he said, “lot of people have asked me this question, am I a politician? ASUU is non partisan, non religious, non ethnic and tribal organisation, we are interested in addressing the problems of this country.<br /> “Politicians are the people that are compounding the problems of this country so how can we be influenced by any political party?  ASUU is a trade union of high intellectual people, so no political party can influence or sponsor us.”
